yamaha copper snare drum

anyone have one? is it good for an all around snare? i would be very curious of any jazz guys that play this drum and how it works in that setting.

I have a 6.5x14 model that has the seamless shell. The new ones have seams, which is suppose to be of lesser quality.

I've only had mine for a short time and haven't used it too much. I think it would work great in a jazz setting, in fact that's one of the reasons I bought it. If you crank it up it gives you a good pop sound too. The thing that I really noticed is how much louder it is than my Maple Custom snare. But, I guess most metal drums are loud.

cool thanks. i saw roy haynes play 2 sets in nyc and it sounded awesome, but he would of sounded amazing on anything. i think i might try one out and see what is going on.

Why did Yamaha cut over to seamed shells? It "seams" that EVERYONE thinks they suck!

So what's the deal with the Weckl aluminum signature model? Are they just not going to offer it any more?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">He has a signature copper snare. It's a little bit different than the standard copper. I thought about getting one but it was too dry sounding.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I heard they went to the seamed shell because it was too expensive to keep doing the seamless.

I think someone mentioned in another thread that the Weckl aluminum snare has been discontinued because Dave didn't like the sound.
